The two greatest commandments according to Jesus can be found in Mark 12:29-31: “The most important one is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second one is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Here at First Baptist Church we take these words very serious. Each of gatherings and services are meant to help us love God and love others. For us this also means we believe that the best way to love God and love others is to do it together, as a community of people with a common purpose.
Sunday Service
Each week we gather on Sunday morning, 10:30am, in order to love God and learn how to love others. This is done together, in community, and includes: greeting each other, songs, prayers, stories shared, giving of money and other resources, hearing a message/sermon, and being challenged to do something with what we are hearing. The Sunday morning gathering is laid back and relaxed but honoring to our God.
Sunday School
Right before our Sunday Service a group of adults get together to study Scripture, the Bible, more in depth starting at 9:30am. Sometimes they study a certain book of the Bible and other times they are studying a topic using the Bible as their guide. We hope in the near future to offer more opportunities to grow in our understanding of Scripture.
Women’s Bible Study
Each summer we have someone who will lead other women in a 10-12 week Bible study weekly on Tuesdays starting at Noon. In the past they have done Beth Moore Bible Studies. The group is open to all ladies and normally is about 2 hours in length.
American Baptist Women’s Circle and Mission
Monthly from October through June on the first Tuesday at Noon a group of ladies meet to discuss ways we can interact our community and world with the love of Christ. The gathering is about 90 minutes in length and is where updates concerning missionaries and American Baptist Church USA news is shared.
Children Gatherings
Each Sunday we have a special program that takes place during part of the service called: “God’s Big Picture” . The time is filled with lessons, crafts, music, and other activities that engage kids of all abilities and levels. This gathering is open to anyone from infant through 6th grade and is staffed with two volunteers.
Craft and Rummage Fair & Sweet Shop
Each year in October, we host a craft and rummage fair, along with homemade baked goods to purchase. Each fair is different but we are told we have some of the best pies and baked goods around. Many of individuals spend countless hours baking pies and making crafts. If you would like to donate an item to be sold please contact the church office. We may not be the church for everyone but we can be the church for you!
First Baptist Church seeks to be a people who are furthering the Good News of Jesus and reaching new people for the Kingdom of God.
